The Grove Family Tree:

Most of the information included in the family tree for Samuel Grove and his descendants came from three important sources.  The first is the estate file for Samuel Grove, the elder which is covered in another section of this web site.  Samuel Grove Sr. 1822 Estate Documents

The second important source of information consulted was George R. Prowell’s History of York County, Pennsylvania published in 1907 by J. H. Beers & Co.  This publication has an extended biographical section on the Grove family in Volume II on pages 374 and 375.

Finally, John Gibson’s History of York County, Pennsylvania published in 1886 was helpful in establishing the fact that Samuel Grove’s daughter Catherine married Paul Jünger’s youngest known son Martin Yinger with the following excerpt:

“John S. Yinger is a son of Paul and Christine (Snyder) Yinger. His grandfather, Martin Yinger, lived and died near Lewisberry, York County. Subject's grandmother, Catherine (Grove) Yinger, was a daughter of Sam Grove, the gunsmith, well known in Lewisberry, where he resided. Paul Yinger, father of John S., was born September 17, 1793, was a blacksmith, was reared and lived on the homestead now occupied by our subject, and died May 7, 1876.”

Therefore, the connection of Samuel Grove’s family to the family of Paul Jünger is through the marriage of Samuel Grove’s daughter, Catherine to Paul Jünger’s son, Martin.  The family tree for the Grove family of Newberry Township which illustrates the connection to the Yinger family of York County, Pennsylvania can be viewed by following the link below to another page in this section of the web site:
